AI spending is the largest in human history

March 5, 20262 min read

I wish everyone understood that the spending on AI LLMs we’re facing in 2026 from every major corporation in the world is THE LARGEST EXPENDITURE in human history. There is no comparison.

The Moon landing? Amateurs. That was a fraction. The Great Wall of China? Please. The nuclear arms race? Hold my beer.

And even before firing people to replace them with AI, companies are firing people to free up cash flow to SPEND ON developing AI. Or rather, to buy GPUs.

This is the world we live in.

There are no other major cost centers to cut for this arms race beyond human resources. You can streamline all you want, but people are expensive. Very. And you don’t go back. Those investments, like it or not, must find profit in AI applications, which even right now can easily replace many juniors and middle managers.

It’s somewhat amusing that in this epoch-defining shift for the human species, with an absolutely insane future where capitalism won’t provide a Plan B like it has before, there are right-wing governments that keep insisting on producing more humans (white ones, coincidentally). And what exactly are we going to have all these people do? Already now, Gen Z is staring into an abyss of collapsing hiring.

Universal basic income for everyone? Send them to terraform Mars? Got any other Elon-Musk-on-acid level nonsense?
