INCREDIBLE PLOT TWIST AT THE PENTAGON
Something frankly unexpected just happened, in a historical moment where all the major Big Tech CEOs are revealing themselves to be weak, insecure children with eugenic theories and/or ped*phile tendencies.
Dario Amodei, head of Anthropic — the parent company of Claude Opus (the de-facto leading AI model) — said NO to the Pentagon.
Long story short: Amodei was threatened with being cut from the privileged supplier list of the Department of Defense if he didn't consent to Claude being used for purposes that could include mass citizen surveillance and autonomous weapons. Anthropic's competitors accepted.
Dario said NO.
Amodei is a tough little character with the typical grit of Italian immigrants' sons — we know that. Days ago he refused to hold Sam Altman's hand in India, and he doesn't mince words. His strength comes from facts: he's a real researcher, not a fluff manager, and Claude consistently stays one step ahead of the competition. He can afford to have skin in the game.
With this power move, he shows two attributes that are frankly rare at the highest levels, especially in tech. It gives me particular hope.
